Building Work Starts at Charlton Park

During the coldest March on record (or so it looks) we have started a programme of building work and improvements at Charlton Park. The first part of this has been to replace the roof in the main part of the shop. Already we can see the benefit i.e. the snow and rain are not coming in through the new bit. The building work will cause a level of disruption for which we apologise. Please don't hesitate to ask if you are finding it difficult to find anything or you need assistance. We will always be happy to help you.

Challenge Cup for 2013 Launched

The Challenge Cup is a gardening competition for local schools. It is in the memory of Mrs Dorothy Stevenson, know to many as Gran. Gran was very keen on gardening and would be pleased to see her enthusiasm being passed down to younger generations. She lived and worked at Charlton Park until she was 101 years old. A picture of her starting the garden at Charlton Park in the 1920s can be seen below.

This year we currently have twelve schools competing in the challenge to see who can grow the greatest weight of potatoes from the seed potatoes provided. Each school has bee given a pack which includes a potato planter, full instructions and an easy to follow recipe. We wish them all luck and hope for a better season than last year when even the professionals found potato growing tough.

Mothers' Day Sunday 10th March

Valentine's Day

Had a really busy Valentine's Day at Charlton Park. It started early with Ruth Stevenson being interviewed by BBC Radio Oxford just after 7am and our delivery drivers were out for most of the day. Thank you to all of our customers.

French Seed Potato varities arrive

After what feels like a long wait the french variety seed potatoes are now arriving. When I counted this morning we had 98 different varities of seed potato in stock. If you are not sure what variety would suit you best you can buy loose tubers, allowing you to try out different varities. We are happy to recommend varities to you, perhaps you have a particular type of soil or need a slug resistant variety. Just ask and we will help.

Seed Potatoes

New varities of seed potatoes are arriving every day now. The season has been slow to start and is approximately two weeks behind due to supply problems. The poor weather of 2012 has had an impact also on varities that are available. If you are after a particular variety now is the time to buy before stocks start to run short.
